On February 9th we had a fabulous meeting at Shutters on the Beach! Our speaker was the CEO of the LA 2028 Olympics Committee, we had lots of wonderful guests, and we gave away money for a good cause!!
Gene Sykes (middle), CEO of the LA 2028 Olympics Committee, was invited by Jolly Gissell (left) to address our club. He talked about the process of winning the competition to host the 2028 Games and about the preparations that are already under way. They are pictured here with President Tom Larmore on the right.
Thank you to Larry Mortorff for being our greeter at the door!
Also thanks to Drew Fleming who was our speaker introducer, and Karim Jaude who gave our invocation!
Thanks as well go to Pat Johnston, Rosie Regalbuto, and Nora Bohn who sang out proud! Since we were at a temporary location we didn't have a piano, but they sounded wonderful a capella!
We love giving money to good causes!
Past Presidents Dee Menzies and Nat Trives presented a check to Carla Devore of the Venice Family Clinic!
Rev. Joe Metoyer was fined for sending several of his parishioners over to the Westside Food Bank to help our club's community service activity -- without actually showing up himself.
Nora Bohn performs an excellent service by regularly contributing a column in the Santa Monica Star about the Rotary Club. However, in her last column, President Tom noted that the word, "Rotary," did not appear once. Oops!
Laurel Rosen's guest was Gauri Ramnath,
Timur Berberolgu brought his lovely wife, Melissa,
And Jolly Gissell welcomed Jocelyn Greece, who accompanied speaker Gene Sykes. Jocelyn is the community relations director for the LA 2028 Olympics Committee!
Since both Jolly and Gene were at the head table, Jocelyn was ably introduced by new member John Dracup!
Thank you to Shutters on the Beach for hosting us! Everything looked beautiful and the food was delish!!
