On December 1st we had a great day giving away lots of money to charities, hearing our Senator Ben Allen speak, and welcoming lots of wonderful guests!
President Tom Larmore was glad to welcome Senator Ben Allen! The senator, a Santa Monica High School grad, spoke eloquently on his district and what it is exactly that he and his fellow senators do. His speech included details on lobbyists, laws, voting and campaigns, competing interest groups, and housing.
Billy Howard and Past President Nat "Mr. Santa Monica" Trives presented the Rebecca Rubin of the Coalition for Engaged Education with a Community & Youth Grant! Another grant given this day was to The CLARE Foundation for equipment for its new Women and Children First program, which provides services to pregnant and postpartum women who need treatment for substance abuse.
Past President Dee Menzies presented a Capital Improvement Grant check to Julie Olds and Roger Weaver of P.S. Science for $8,000 on behalf of the Santa Monica Rotary Foundation Board to assist in their efforts to expand science education in our public schools!
Thank you, Ann Greenspun, for organizing our Blood Drive!
We love having Eddie Guerboian attend as well, except when he takes too much time at the microphone! Avo, thanks for keeping your dad in check. :)
It was great to see former member Harmon Sieff and Larry Maher was especially glad he attended! Cheers!
We are so happy to have Tammy Andrews back from her leave of absence, and we are always grateful for these two gentlemen! Starting in July of this year, Ken Waltzer will be a Vice President and Mitchell Kraus will be our President!
These fine looking fellas are also working hard for the club! Kurtis Magee is co-chairing 2 committees, new member John Dracup is starting to get involved in our World Community Service, and Bill Powell is our Vice President of Committees this year!
It was a great day! Thanks to all who made it possible!
