The RCSM’s in person meeting this past week was kicked off with our Cheering Squad and great fun. We celebrated Cinco de Mayo! Nora Bohn, thanks for leading our special Karaoke song, “La Bamba”. V.P. Pam Brady supplied the presidential Sombrero and Maracas and yes, I danced! (The things that happen at live meetings).
President Elect, Dr. Ken Waltzer, President Elect, Elect, Dr. Monika White and Past President, Judy Neveau represented our Club at the District Conference in Indian Wells, CA this past week, I joined them on Saturday evening.
Dr. Eric Zackrison was our program at our regular meeting this past week, V.P. JB Bartlett introduced him. Dr. Zackrison’s specialty is Organizational Communication, he has been teaching, training, and consulting in Santa Barbara and Ventura for the last five years. His focus has been on team building, leadership, and strategy. His published research indicates that workplace relationships are the core of coordinated teams and organizations.
His work is based on scientific findings about how people grow and develop through self-insight. “Self-insight is not isolated but is based on an understanding of the context. Man is not an island and that is why IDI is based on data from the contexts in which we operate.”
IDI measures three dimensions:
Directiveness
How direct are you perceived?
How often are you seen as striving to actively influence people or projects?
Affiliation
How personal are you perceived?
How often are you seen as striving to be personal and create emotional contact?
Adaptability
How attentive are you perceived?
Dr. Zackrison says an understanding of differences in behavioral style applies to the following:
Better communication, personal development, leadership development, motivation, giving
feedback, coaching and development, dealing with difficult people/situations, and building
stronger teams. This was another very interesting meeting.
