TOURING THE TABLE
No touristas at this head table, they were all here to stay under the direction of the PresiDEEnt. KAREN BAKER was our meeter and greeter this week, at the other end of the table, welcoming a loving spirit to our meeting was KEITH MAGEE. Touring the head table this week was newish member JILLIAN ALEXANDER. Immediate Past President BILL CROOKSTON was our Program Chair, where hosted MISTI KERNS AND LAUREN SCHLAU from the Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Ms. KERNS and Ms. SCHLAU gave an excellent overview of the importance of tourism to the Santa Monica economy and the Los Angeles Basin. As most of us now know, tourism is a driving force in the economy of our fair enclave by the bay and the CVB does much to promote us internationally and drive all those wonderful tourists to our hotels, restaurants, and stores.
The CVB is a great resource for those out of town guests to find their own way about, leaving you free to continue on in your daily life.
NEW TEAM FORMING
JON KEMP announced the formation of the KEMP BEACH VOLLEYBALL TEAM with the birth of his daughter, MADELINE JOY KEMP who began her tanning career at a whopping 7 pounds and 5 ounces. She’ll be spiking ‘em in no time. Mother GINA is doing well.
HOST/HOSTESS DINNERS
JOHN MILLER is the man to see to signup for this year’s Host/Hostess Dinner program. It is a great way to get to know other Rotarians and their spouses.
HERE FISHY FISHY…..
The Gotta Go Group (GGG) has no space left for their trip September 23rd to the Aquarium of the Pacific, BUT you can ride the bus down with a great group of Rotarians and enjoy an afternoon shopping and seeing the sights in Long Beach if you are so inclined. This is a Tuesday trip for those who have the day off.
NEW HELPGUIDE.ORG
The Club’s Project, HELPGUIDE.ORG has announced an updated and simplified website. I took a review of the new site and am here to say that there is scads of great information and resources available. Please support this worthy project with your usage.
JON KEMP’S new team member cost him a good $350.
The President Elect was positive that his never miss, always right, proven correct method for determining the baby’s gender showed that Mr and Mrs. KEMP were having a boy. This gaff is costing him a beautiful $250.
Proving once again that kids are always expensive, JOHN LEHNE was shellacked for his son’s sealing the deal on three new projects worth over 7 figures. Luckily JOHN has enough of a primary base foundation to roll out the green.
I’m not certain that I’ll never make a good accountant. I know that CAROL JACKSON was fined $110, but I have absolutely no idea why.
And finally, SPYROS DELLAPORTAS is still causing trouble for BRENDA KATZ, who was confused about the bit of fun that was poked at his tourism center. She’s paying $100 for it, but at least he’s “on the hook” with a fine of $528 for bed taxes.
