WHAT A BUNCH OF CRAFT!

CLYDE SMITH did the honors as the Meet and Greet with our international flavors of Swedish and Guatemala Rotarians, at the other end of the table, bringing an animal loving spirit to our meeting was FRANK LAVAC. The program chair this week was SCHILLER COLBERG as he introduced the lovely SUSAN DAWSON and MOI.

MS. DAWSON gave a touching and personal look at her life in the Food Service world and how she managed to get there.  Her adventures throughout the world provided  the spice to a hearty stew of a life, full of humor, excitement and travel.  Her extensive travel has clearly provided her with great insights into management, and the human condition.

I managed to get at least two good laughs out of the crowd of onlookers,  thanks in no small part to  the gracious introduction of SCHILLER, who was kind enough to call me a “Gentleman Lawyer”. I’m still debating if I should sue or not. Seriously though,  being a business lawyer allows me the opportunity to help others in the fine art of entrepreneurship. I help others build their business and together we achieve their career goals and establish the company they want.

PHIL TIRONE was our song leader this week, and I’d like to personally thank him for the exuberance with which he wields a gavel.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

HOST/HOSTESS DINNERS

JOHN MILLER is the man to see to signup for this year’s Host/Hostess Dinner program.  It is a great way to get to know other Rotarians and their spouses.

CLARIFICATION

Good thing I’m a lawyer, because when I get thrown in the shark tank they’ll leave me alone – Professional courtesy you know.

Seems I had it wrong that The Gotta Go Group (GGG) had no space left for their trip September 23rd to the Aquarium of the Pacific.  What I heard was no space was left for the tour, BUT what they said was, the “Behind the Scenes” tour is sold out, the regular tour is still available for those who wish to see the seals play, the jelly fish ( why are they called fish? They have no scales, no fins and no vertebrae? Where’s LAVAC when you need him?) float along, and learn what a wrasse is, and no, it has nothing to do with Jesse Ventura’s old career.

SOUTH OF THE BORDER UPDATE

Just so that you have might have something to tell all those friends who love to pick on California in our time of dingy-ness this comes from ANNIE BIRD to show that election craziness is a global problem:

“Yes, and I have a little more politics for everyone. Buenos Aires just had its run-off elections for their Jefe de Gobierno (mayor). As always, elections in Argentina are exciting with posters everywhere, graffiti, television debates, and critical conversation. The election was between Ibarra, the former mayor of the capitol, and Macri, a powerful businessman. This past Sunday, I went and "voted" with some Argentine friends to see what it was like. First, you find your name on a list, go to your assigned table, enter the "dark room" with an envelope, and select one piece of paper with the candidate of your choice. Supposedly, this is a quite a primitive system that has not been subject to change for, what else, but political reasons. Ibarra won the election by a 7% margin.”

A FINE DAY TO BE IN SANTA MONICA

HAL QUIGLEY’s new land yacht cost him a mooring fee.

HANK WALTHER’S short-lived career as a lumberjack was axed, probably by his doctors, but he was dinged this week though he looked great and was up and around.

There were a couple others, but I was too busy trying to figure out if I had anything interesting to say about the gubernatorial recall.  Other than the fact that we are having one. I might have been a little self absorbed, but you know, that too is an occupational hazard. I apologize for falling down on the job.
