ABSENT WITH LEAVE

During my absence on October 15, 2004, I thank our friend, VP Hank Walther, fellow officers and board members for attending to our affairs at the Rotary Board and Club meetings held October 12th and October 15th respectively.  It was comforting to have our club in strong hands.  Thank you all

SANTA MONICA SET’S NEW RECORD

The featured speaker for District Governor Pat Cashin was Pat Boone.  One good “ Pat” desires another.  A new record was set for the Rotary Club of Santa Monica.  Nineteen Rotarians plus two guests supported President Lionel Ruhman at the District Breakfast. Do you want a great District Breakfast Turnout? Then either send your President on leave or have him sleep in.

YEAR WELL DONE

Club President Dee Menzies, 2003-2004

QUOTE:

It is my pleasure to congratulate your club for being one of the top three contributors to the Annual Programs Fund from your district in 2003-2004.  The Trustees of The Rotary Foundation recognize your club’s efforts and join me in thanking you for your generosity and dedication to the Foundation and its programs.

The Annual Programs Fund is the cornerstone of The Rotary Foundation’s giving efforts.  The money raised by your club allows the Foundation to support the numerous humanitarian and educational programs, as well as an infinite number of other endeavors of international goodwill, that emerge each year through the work of The Rotary Foundation.  Please accept this letter and the banner as an expression of our thanks to “all the members of your club.”  This banner will serve as a reminder of what your club has accomplished.

On behalf of the Trustee, staff and the many programs recipients who you may never have the opportunity to meet, please accept our thanks for your support of The Rotary Foundation and its programs.

Sincerely,

Carlo Ravizza, Chairman- The Rotary Foundation Trustees, RI

DISTRICT GOVERNOR’S MESSAGE

Congratulation! We are more than a quarter through our year.  It has been a busy time, I am sure, preparing for the governor’s visit, planning for your weekly meetings, attending board meetings, and taking part in your clubs special events.

In addition to all that’s been going on in your own club, many of you have also attended the District breakfast (at 7:00 in the morning), made the drive to Santa Monica during rush hour traffic to attend the first President’s dinner (which was a terrific evening), and come out on a Saturday afternoon with your family for Rotary fellowship at our picnic in the park.

You have attended the seminars on Membership and the Rotary Foundation and the Walk & Roll project for the benefit of Aids.  You have supported the Japanese Youth Exchange and the Ambassadorial Scholars.

I am writing to personally thank you for all you help and support during the first quarter of our Centennial year and for your commitment to and support of the upcoming Paul Harris Celebration.

I have visited thirty clubs since the first of July.  Betty, Laura, the Assistant Governors and I have thoroughly enjoyed your warm hospitality.  Each club is unique and we have been impressed with the diversity of your projects and the successful work you are doing this Rotary year.

You might be surprised at how powerful and dynamic our district is and how much we are respected throughout the Rotary world.  Last year, District 5280 was number one in Zone 24 and number four in the world for its support of The Rotary Foundation!

The end is in sight.  The next breakfast is not scheduled until January 11, 2005 and the Centennial Dinner will be held on February 17, 2005.  We hope that you will have an opportunity to take a breath of fresh air during the holidays to enjoy you family and club activities.

Remember, the first rule of Rotary this year-----“Have fun!”

Yours in the service of Rotary,

Pat Cashin
