REVOLUTIONS TO REVERENDS

The head table this week showcased that legendary songmeister JOHN MILLER as our invocateur, who knew that he moonlighted as a reverend with his MA in Theology from Fuller? Next to John was the man who lived the Great Escape, STEVE ALEXIS, revving up our Visitors and Guests was local carmeister BRENDA KATZ.  The main speaker was Dr JAMES LUCK from Orthopedic Hospital, his program chair was Toymeister JAY SMITH, and of course TableMeister was PresiDEEnt.

Dr LUCK, who is continuing a family tradition with Orthopedic Hospital – his father was Medical Director for 1955-1966, gave an excellent overview of the development and history of Santa Monica’s newest medical facility which is scheduled to open in 2006.

As if we needed any further proof of the high cost of medical care these days, and how much prices have increased, when OH was originally built, it was with a $100,000 fundraising campaign.  The new OH, is costing $350,000,000!

Of course, back in the days when OH was started, polio destroyed lives, cancer was called “consumption” and people just died, and heart bypasses were not even a thought in a young doctors eye.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

GOOD NEWS AND BAD NEWS!!

The BAD NEWS is that LINDA GRAY has tendered her resignation, since she has decided to move to Central California to be with her family. Our loss is certainly their gain.  THANK YOU LINDA FOR ALL THAT YOU HAVE DONE.

The GOOD NEWS is that BARBARA HOPPER has gracefully agreed to be come out of retirement in order to see us through the Executive Secretary search process.

ONE WEEK TO GO FOR F.A.R.F

THERE’S ONLY ONE WEEK TO GO BEFORE , the FIRST ANNUAL ROTARY FUN NIGHT! For  $25.00 you get fun, frivolity and an evening with SPYROS, who is the person to call for a reservation, and the big BH of course. The event is a casual dress one, and a reservation made is a reservation paid.

GO ARMY !   GO NAVY!  GO AIR FORCE! GO MARINES! GO GUARD!!

Yes we have a VETERANS’ DAY PROGRAM and all who have served are requested to attend in their dress uniforms.  Of course, we expect that some of those uniforms have shrunk over the years so – for those who have laundry problems, you can wear a jacket or hat showing your branch of service.

A TEENAGER, A BABY, AND A BUNCH OF FISH!

The ever irrepressible BOB GABRIEL has a new family member, at 8 pounds his new grandson is costing him a cute $320. Which doesn’t seem bad as birthday present for this young man on his 80th!! ( That was another $80 the PresiDEEnt dinged him for!)

Not to play favorites, she got fined herself for a Black and White photo from her days as a teen model. $100 for each of her still smiling eyes.

Dr. SAM MUSLIN, who’s known as the Fish Slayer after his latest trip to Sitka Alaska.  For his 268 pounds of fish fillets he’s coughing up a 53.6 fins or 13.4 saber tooth sawbucks.

VISITARIANS AND GUESTARIANS

We had an international guest this week, I know, very unusual for us, but anyways, CHA KOO came to partake of our humor from SEOUL-NAM SON KOREA.  Traveling all the way from that far-off land of milk and honey came DICK LITTLESTONE, yup, the Pacific Palisades member was here on a make up. We’re sure that it seemed different.
