OUR FRIDAY, OCTOBER 08, 2004 PROGRAM

Mr. Harry Jacobs was very interesting and alarming respective of the status of our elections and Poll workers in this area.   Mr. Jacobs suggestion of partnering with corporations, service clubs, etc., seems very promising as a win-win solution to the problem.   Your club will consider this matter at our board meeting this Tuesday, October 12, 2004.  Should any of you wish to participate as individuals or collectively as Rotarians, please contact June Doy.

ROUTINE WORK NOT MOMENTUM

This is what keeps our club great, have you thought lately about what is required each week, and the Rotarian’s and other who make this all happen.   Starting with our head table:

Spiritual Emphasis, co chair Patricia Farris – Jim Menzies, selects our Invocator

First Year Activities, co chair Tom Loo – John Lehne, selects a New Member

Vice-President Programs, Hank Walther - -selects a Speaker and a Speaker Introducer

Guest Introductions, chairman Dave Rogers - selects a Guests and Visitors Introducer

Music, co chair Carol Jackson, John Miller – provide our Song and Pledge Leader

Carol and her committee members provide our piano pleasures

A lot of communication, scheduling, re-scheduling, panic and so forth occurs weekly until finally June Doy prints and finalizes the head table members.   Our Rotary Club owes these committees and the above named persons our heart felt thanks for their outstanding efforts.   It proves once again that the real champions always make things look easy.

UNDER THE WEATHER

To our Rotarians and friends we send our very best wishes, cares and concerns, and hope for a quick return to good health soon.   Alice Gokkes, Bashir Kadri, Gene Shank, Mary Lois Roney (Herb’s Leading Lady), and Janet Walther (Hank’s Wife) who is recovering from a successful surgery.   Your sick visitation committee and their co-chairs Sue Hartenbaum and Jim Reidy send a special hello.

SPECIAL RECOGNITION

Jillian Alexander and Petra Haffter, both applied for the Group Study Exchange Program in Germany.    This program, chaired by David Bohn is the very best way to build bridges, friendships, and understanding world-wide.   Good Luck and best wishes Ladies, as you both bring honor to our Club.

Thank you Dee and the Menzies Boys for your generosity of time, energy, and gifts to Ethiopia.   Your books and shoes, which you have given, will certainly make a difference to these under privileged children.

Congratulations, Emery Stoops, for being selected as “Who’s Who of World Authors.”  Emery is also a member of “Who’s Who” in the United States as well as “Who’s Who in Education”.   Let us also consider him as “Who’s Who” in the Rotary Club of Santa Monica.   Keep up the great achievements Emery.

FIVE “FINE” FELLOWS FINED $100.00 EACH

Bill Frank was fined for buying a new Mercedes.   With his birthplace in Dearborn Michigan one would have expected him to buy a Ford product, may be even a Jaguar.   Thanks for your $100.00 contributions and good Rotary Spirit.

Jim Haljun our famous dentist with a million dollar smile was fined for trying to increase his dental business by buying special expensive chocolates and giving them to his patients.   A nice gesture, but suspicious?

Bob Klein, (former professional football players) has made even larger gains helping Saint John’s Hospital achieve a beautiful new facility.   Robert is definitely a team player on a winning team.

Bob Sullivan, (blank-blank look alike) was honored as the 2004 Boys and Girls Club “MAN OF THE YEAR”.   Congratulations Bob, his look a like will be revealed in the next Rota-Monica issue.

Lastly, Allen Young the Director of the Boys and Girls Club was fined and recognized for his successful efforts in helping Congress to see the light by appropriating four hundred fifty million dollars in favor of the Boys and Girls Club Nationally.
