LOOK SHARP - THE BIG CHEESE WAS IN TOWN
This week the head table had a slew of powerful people. From Rev. JOSEPH METOYER, our invocator, to Internet Gift Magnate DAVE ROSS welcoming guests and visitors it was a range of leaders. We had new members RICHARD TAUSSIG and MICHAEL CATES. Of course the leader of the pack was our own PresiDEEnt who served as bailiff to NANCY FRIEDMAN’s clerking for the DISTRICT ATTORNEY STEVE COOLEY.
COOLEY, who got his start in politics with a $1,000 check and some much deserved encouragement from our very own CONNOLLY OYLER, is the Los Angeles District attorney. He oversees just under 1000 attorneys, which if you know anything about attorneys is much like trying to herd cats. The district handles over 60,000 felonies and 240,000 misdemeanors a year in the 88 cities which comprise the county.
It was another winning program and an excellent follow up to the one the previous week by ADLAI WERTMAN which was chaired by MYLES PRITCHARD. Mr. WERTMAN is the man in charge over at CHRYSALIS. For those who don’t know, Chrysalis takes the homeless and unemployable and makes them employable.
By providing the underprivileged and uneducated with the education and skills they need to get a job, CHRYSALIS gets people off of the street in a positive way. Rather than incarcerating or institutionalizing the homeless, CHRYSALIS provides them with an address, a fax number, and sometimes with the work experience necessary to get their first “real” job. In an age of short sightedness and complex answers to simple problems, CHRYSALIS provides a practical solution to a basic problem, and they have the track record of success to show for their efforts. After two years, the average recidivism rate for their graduates is less than 30%.

IT’S F.A.R.F TIME AGAIN!!!
Yup, the FIRST ANNUAL ROTARY FUN NIGHT is back. I know, how can something be back if it’s a “First Annual”, don’t ask me, talk to the smiling man at the back table. The good looking one in the wild clothes and who is a Greek version of that master of promotion, P.T. Barnum. He says there’s a F.A.R.F coming up on the 29th of October. This MEMBERS only event is held at the Lower Bel Air Beach Club and is a night of cardsharking, joking, frivolity and overindulging. All for $25.00. The event is a casual dress one, and a reservation made is a reservation paid.

State Prisoner for decades, went on to become President of South Africa
Hope is definitely not the same thing as optimism. It is not the conviction that something will turn out well, but the certainty that something makes sense, regardless of how it turns out.

State Prisoner for his intellectual opposition and plays, went on to become the President of Czech Republic
