Meetings and Pictures

March/April 2005

Wow! Did our manly-man models and RoseMary Regalbuto strut their stuff, or what? Our terrific program on April 22, 2005 honoring secretaries and administrative assistants was one to remember.

Michael Cates and Brenda Katz were our Craft Talkers all stars on 4/8/05

I Was Born To Teach!

Michael spent over 10 years teaching special education before combining his two loves of teaching and gymnastics by opening Broadway Gymnastics located near Playa Vista.

Accountant Makes Good!

Brenda graduated from college obtaining an accounting degree. She now is General Manager of automobile dealership WI Simonson. She is congratulated for a great craft talk by CPA and Past President Hal Quigley.

On 4/1/05 our Firefighters, Police, Teachers, and Motor coach Drivers were honored. Thank you Chair, Judy Neveau for helping us honor our public servants!

Chair Judy Nuveau is shown next to Fire Chief Jim Hone (center) and  his honoree Michael McElveney. Michael is a Hazardous Materials expert. Among other things he is responsible for designing strategies regarding possible weapons of mass destruction. Micheal, thanks for keeping our city safe!
Motor coach Operator David St. Clair was honored for his great service to the citizens of Santa Monica for the last 30 or so years. He always has a smile on his face for every one that rides his bus. One amazing fact is that David has never had an accident over the course of his illustrious career!

Police honoree Saul Rodriguez , left, is shown next to police chief Jim Butts, center,  and President Lionel Ruhman. Saul is responsible for many drug busts that have collected  millions which were used to help fund our cities police department. Saul, thanks from the Rotary Club of Santa Monica!

Back from Safari!

Jack Gregory was fined for his three week safari adventure in Africa. He tells us that he saw Rhinoceros, Elephants, Giraffe and all kinds of African wildlife. According to Jack this was a trip of a lifetime and highly recommends to all adventure loving Rotarians!

Past District Governor John Colville helped us kick off literacy week on 3/11/05

John spoke of his first 17 ”formative years”, with no reading in the home, and no books, no encouragement. But as he tells it, he was pretty good at math and earned money after school keeping track of baseball statistics for the local team. As a consequence he didn’t study much either, and he never learned how to write longhand and to this day he prints when he writes – he says the computer saves him, including the “spell check” and “grammar check” features!

Our own Chamber Executive Director Kathy Dodson was our speaker on 3/4/05

Kathy is shown sitting next to Nat Trives. Kathy is very proud of the Chamber's fabulous business directory
