A Message from Chair John McIntire:
 | In December of 2004 our committee delivered 30 Boxes of books each containing 40-50 Children’s Books which were distributed to 19 Elementary Schools in the Compton and Watts-Willowbrook areas of L.A. Unified School District. |
| Through the Rotary District 5280 “Guenther Grant” we ordered four collections of multi-cultural children’s books for delivery to the East Rancho Dominguez Community Service Center in Compton. |
| Our committee has Contacted the Librarian at John Adams Middle School for the 2005-2006 textbook list. There are three grades and four core subjects for each grade with a total of 12 textbooks at an average cost of $50 each. We are now considering buying two sets of textbooks for the students to use in the Rotarian-sponsored Boys and Girls Club after school program. |
| Coming up is Rotary Reads to Kids Week - March 14th through the 18th. In this event we will enlist the help of dozens of our members to read to the grammar school kids in our local schools. We will need four volunteers—each to act as a Captain to help recruit and coordinate the Rotary reading volunteers for each Elementary School. For our Friday meeting on March 11th we are planning to have a high profile speaker talk to us and kick off the literacy week. |
