Rotary Club of Santa Monica

Meetings and Pictures

November / December 2005

On Friday, December 9, 2005, The Rotary Clubs of Santa Monica and Westwood Village had a joint meeting for a special program as Dr. Tim Liversedge gave us the inside scoop behind the making of  his award winning film "ROAR: Lions of the Kalahari"

President Paul Leoni (Santa Monica) and President Don Anderson (Westwood)

President Paul Leoni and Judy Neveau with our featured speakers.

On Friday 12/2/05 we celebrated Saturday's USC - UCLA game through an old fashioned tailgate party. There were hamburgers, hotdogs, and french fries served. Our hosts were George Collins representing UCLA and Bob Klein USC. Bob played for us fight songs from several major Universities and had us guess from which school they came. Hank Walther amazed us all when he correctly named the origination of 5 of the songs.

Shown starting left is some of our USC supportors: President Paul Leoni  , VP Bob Klein, Tom Loo, and Stan Shu. Sorry for UCLA supporters, this year's game turned out to be a blowout in favor of USC.

All members were encouraged to wear their school colors, for college, High School, Middle School, or grammar school. Our own great attorney Nancy Freedman is shown displaying her school colors from Central High, Class of 1959.

November 18th 2005 - Mr. Mark Leeka District 5280 Foundation Chairman was our guest speaker

Mark makes a District presentation to Jillian Alexander for her fantastic work with the District's Group Study Exchange.
Connie Maguire (left) is shown immediately after presenting a check to a representative from the Venice Family Clinic.

We were honored to have Craft talkers Tish Tisherman and Bob Gabriel talk to us on 11/11/05.

She's a Valley Girl, Totally!

Tish told us she grew up in Sherman Oaks in  the San Fernando Valley  and was a "Valley Girl".
Tish has raised 3 children with her husband Skip. She is the CEO of her own highly successful personnel staffing business.
Tish told us how impressed she is of Rotary when several members helped her with recently displaced hurricane Katrina victims.

Bob Gabriel is Amazing!

Bob helped carry on our Veteran's Day tradition when he told us some incredible stories about when he was in the navy during W.W.II.
The most amazing thing is that Bob has been married to the same women - Louise for over 58 years, way to go Bob!

Gerald McLaughlin, Dean of Loyola Law School, and author of "The Parchment" was our speaker on 11/4/05. The reviews are in, if you loved the "DaVinci Code" you will love his new novel.

Gerald read to us a few passages from his novel about papal transition, conspiracy, political suspense and church history. From the Knights Templar to the current Mideast tensions McLaughlin ties it all together in his new work.
New member Nicole Dickerson is all smiles after being fined for having her picture in the recent issue of our Rotary International Magazine.

Len Lanzi was honored by President Paul for his animal rescuing skills. Our Web team was happy to get this rare picture of new member Len, and can't wait for Len's upcoming Craft Talk.
