The National Conference for Community and Justice Dinner Thursday evening, Feb. 27th, celebrated the lives and generous work of many of our community leaders including our wonderful President Bill; Jean McNeil-Wyner, Santa Monica Hospital; Father Michael Gutierrez, St. Anne's Church and Heidi and Stuart Laff, AeCom and the Center for Healthy Aging Board.

The exciting event drew nearly 400 luminary friends from the Westside, including Robbie and Richard Bloom our Mayor, Santa Monica's First Couple.

The evening was produced by Dinner Chair and Mistress of Ceremonies, Rotarian Iao Katagiri whose boundless energy and special talents lead to a fast-moving, entertaining dinner, where everyone laughed a lot and completely enjoyed the evening !

The exuberant Nat Trives, Rotarian and NCCJ Board Member, opened the live auction and quickly moved around the large Ballroom encouraging everyone to bid just a bit higher.

Nat introduced President Bill in a very sincere and touching story of Bill's many successful business enterprises and community service and talked about their 40 years of friendship and his admiration for Bill.

As our proud President accepted his award,  he asked all of his Rotarians to stand to be recognized. The room became silent,  everyone's complete attention given to our wise leader, as he eloquently expressed his deep appreciation to all.

Everyone was touched by the issues which NCCJ stands for.   The National Council for Community and Justice works to transform communities by empowering leaders to create institutional change.  NCCJ has worked to remedy the harmful effects of discrimination and to continue to fight bias, bigotry and racism.

Congratulations to our very special president, Dr. William Crookston !

Many Rotarians joined Bill to celebrate the festive occasion as he was honored by all in our Community,  including Architect Kris Andresen and School District Superintendent John Deasy.

Happy to see so many of his Rotarian friends turn out, the beaming Bill greeted Santa Monica Chamber President, the lovely Tish Tisherman.
