3rd
Annual International Food Festival

Thanks to
our gracious hosts Tom and Stephanie Loo and our youngest Rotarian Ryan
On Sunday afternoon April 17th 2005, at the Malibu home of Tom and Stephanie
Loo, the Club held its third International Food Festival. The
Festival featured home-prepared dishes made by members from the approximately 20
different ethnic groups to which the Club’s Rotarians or their spouses claim
ancestry. The afternoon event was the highest attended in its history and
drew over 200 members and guests, including District Governor Pat Cashin,
Past District Governors Rick Mendoza, Len
Wasserstein, and Bob White, District Governor-elect, Ingo Werk, Executive Aide, Laura
Calderwood, District 5280 Office Administrator, Rebecca Garcia-Prieto and their respective spouses or guests. The
event also included the Club’s former Ambassadorial Scholar, Masahiko
Tanaka and the District’s Rotary Group Study Exchange Team, Donn
Ennis, Natasha Mascarenhas, Susan
Valot and their Team Leader, Jillian
Alexander who will be traveling to Germany in May 2005.
The
purpose of the family-oriented Food Festival was to celebrate the diversity
within the Santa Monica Club and to raise funds to provide assistance to the
local and international charitable programs.
These international and local charities were
selected in advance by the Club's membership and change from year to year.
In
addition
to the
great food and live ethnic music from several bands, the Santa Monica Club held
a silent auction which grossed over $8500 with over 50 items secured or donated
by members. The event also included
several members from the Rotaract Club at Santa Monica City College who joined
in the festivities.
