Presidential Dinners

On September 9, 2004 and for the second year in a row, the Rotary Club of Santa Monica hosted the first of four Presidential Dinners for District 5280.  Approximately seventy were in attendance.  The idea is for all the current year presidents to get to know each other and the District leadership in an intimate atmosphere.

Once again, the party was a huge success.  The motto for the evening was “Service Above Self,” and an “Irish” theme was used to honor our District Governor, Pat Cashin.  The Masonic Center of Santa Monica and the decorations were stunning.  The entertainment was excellent.  The food was prepared by our very own President – Lionel Ruhman. Lionel  prepared  homemade corned beef and cabbage, which was outstanding.  Once the meal was under control and placed into  the able hands of members of his Board, he put on his Presidential hat.  The welcome of Governor Pat Cashin was on the money.  Director Clyde Smith delivered an inspiring invocation, led us in pledging alliance to our flag and  gave us his high energy as we sang “God Bless America.”  Governor Pat  imparted a few "Shamrocks of Wisdom."  Assistant Governor Randy Magnin (of the Beverly Hills Club) updated us on Club Service.  The highlight of the program were the Presidential Minutes by each of the club presidents in attendance.

President Lionel was our Master of Ceremonies. He is shown introducing Century City President Marcy Bralker. Lionel almost brought her to tears when he introduced her to  his unique brand of humorous quips (Ruhmanisms).
