IT WAS A GREAT GOVERNORS DAY!

The ANNUAL GOVERNORS DAY meeting was a great time to see what our club is up to.  The presentation to Governor JOHN COLVILLE covered all the committees our club has and the activities that they have been up to.  The presentation by ALLAN YOUNG on our project with the Santa Monica USD was a great example of what our club can do and how our efforts can be the basis for a national model.

CAROL JACKSON gave a moving example of how Rotary works in peoples lives with the story of her husbands medical experiences.  KRIS ANDRESEN covered our literacy efforts, ROBERT SEGAL was charming and informative in his coverage of the HELPGUIDE.ORG benefits and usage.

TOM LOO explained to those gathered the long family history of his participation in THE INTERNATIONAL FOOD FESTIVAL.  Turns out his father, also a Rotarian, was involved in the breaking of bread and meeting new cultures.

At the conclusion of the meeting, which clearly covered more topics than I written of, we adjourned to the main meeting of the club where we learned an amazing set of facts about our club.  CONNOLLY OYLER, that other genial governor of good humor, was celebrating his 70th birthday.

Governor COLVILLE gave out awards to several dedicated Rotarians, DON DICKERSON, JOHN BOHN, and SCHILLER COLBERG were given an award for their  outstanding accomplishments and contributions to Rotary.

Not to be outdone, President Elect LIONEL RUHMAN, taking the reins of leadership in his hands has started a new tradition in the Club, he calls it ROTARY 101. It is for those members who are able to maintain perfect attendance, and to kick off the award, FRANK BLENKHORN AND PHIL WHITING with 57 and 44 years respectively of perfect attendance, ( it adds up to “101”) were the inaugural recipients.

That siren of Song PHIL TIRONE was able to set two past presidents on a tear of ENTHUSIASTIC CONTRIBUTIONS with the merest mention of the words ZEST  and JUICE.  PP’s FRITZSCHE AND CROOKSTON contributed to the clubs spirits with their rousing renditions of “ZEST” throughout the Governor’s visit.

DAVID’S DOODLINGS

Normal is getting dressed in clothes that you buy for work, driving through traffic in a car that you are still paying for, in order to get to the job that you need so you can pay for the clothes, car, and the house that you leave empty all day, to afford to live in it.
