WHAT A PAIR OF PLUCKERS!
Leading us this week in musical modality, was HERB RONEY was MARY MATTHEWS a woman that one could say was “driven” to greatness as a new Rotarian welcoming our Visitors and Guests! ( For those who don’t know, MM is a GM in SM at SAAB). Tuning us up spiritually this week was the guidance of STAN JOHNSON, Beside soulful Stan, was Dr. DAVE ROGERS, as one of our newer notes in the symphony of Rotary Service. Introducing the talented talons of JACK SANDERS was the nimble fingered Dr. DICK RICE, a student of JACK who has now taken over 100 lessons on the guitar.
Mr. SANDERS play a fine selection of baroque and classical guitar tunes on a guitar that he had recently completed building himself. It takes over 175 hours to build a guitar by hand, the one that Mr. Sanders was playing for us, was a replica of a guitar that Stradivarius built.
It was another fine example of an educational and entertaining luncheon speaker. Keep this up and some of us might get KULLCHURD.
FOUNDATION TICKETS
It’s that time of year again, the Foundation Tickets are coming soon and you can expect to be hearing from HAL QUIGLEY and MARV LEVIN for the November dinner.
HERE FISHY FISHY, COME MEET THE NICE TARTAR SAUCE
It’s short notice, but the WEST LOS ANGELES CLUB is hosting a fishing trip for students of Braille and we are invited to go along and help out. Sounds like a great way to enjoy the ocean, be of service and drown some bait.
NEW FUN STUFF TO DO
JACK SIEGAL announced that BILL HUNT, is looking for sign ups for a new committee, the “GOTTA GO GROUP”. This new committee is taking the meaning of Fun and kicking it up a notch. First up is a trip September 23 to the AQUARIUM OF THE PACIFIC ON AUGUST 11. Tickets are $50.00 per person and reservations are due by AUGUST 22.
MATH CLASS
Class was cancelled this week and there was no homework assigned, probably because the teacher was counting her steps in the RELAY FOR LIFE.
ROTARY ROCKETS LANDED OVER $3,000
This years’ Rotary Rockets team stepped over 122,000 times for a total of 72.2 miles, raising over $3,000 for Cancer Research. Based on the pics it looks like JUDY NEVEAU, ROSEMARY REGALBUTO, KRIS ANDRESEN, MARILYN AND PAUL LEONI, LORRAINE AND MANFRED JOSSEL CHAR AND DICK LAWRENCE, JOE PUNDYK, SPYROS DELLAPORTAS, our PresiDEEnt, BLAIR BRANDENBURG, IAO KATAGIRI all had a great time. I see that ERIK JORGENSBORG was instrumental in providing shelter with his tent raising skill.
“ HI MIKE, Hi Mike, Hey Michael, Howdy MIKE!”
This week we had three Rotarian visitors, OSCAR GONZALEZ from ANAHUACO, MEXICO; TAKASHI YOSHIDA from ODAWARA-NAKA, JAPAN; and HIROKO IKEDA from FAIRFAX, VA, USA.
Our guests were RUTH RICE, YUKO YOSHIDA, MASUMI YOSHIDA, JAN SPAK, LISA MUSLIN, E. KEITH RICHARDSON ….
And this weeks Mike was MIKE KRAFT .
UPCOMING SPEAKERS
This coming FRIDAY we have SUSAN MCCARTHY from the City of Santa Monica, who will give us a “STATE OF THE CITY” update. Quite timely with all the goings on around town. This should be an excellent luncheon and should not be missed if you want to know what is being done with your tax dollars.
Friday, August 15, 2003 we will have a timely presentation on the "Historic Recall of California Governor, Gray Davis" by local attorney and nationally known election law expert, Colleen McAndrews and the Program Chair will be Tom Larmore
Friday, August 22, 2003 we are tentatively adjusting our calendar to try to get our Public Safety & Medical Emergency leaders on program to get an "Inside Look at Why Our Emergency Response Plan Works".
DAVID’S DOODLINGS
Let’s hear it for JUAN LLAURO, who when called by one of those annoying telemarketers, turned the tables on the caller, and Juan signed HIM UP as a new financial planning client at EDWARD JONES. Way to GO!
Experience is a wonderful thing. It enables
you to recognize a mistake when you make it again.
