Governor Mendoza’s Seeds of Love
Our District Governors day met all our expectations. Prior to our noon meeting, Governor Rick and Pat Cashin (Assistant Governor) met with President Bill Crookston, V.P. of committees – Tom Loo, Secretary – Monica White, Treasurer – Bob Klein and President-Elect – Dee Menzies. Vice President Dave Rimer and Director Susan Dawson were absent. Also attending were directors Jim Menzies, Michael O’Hara, John Kemp, Bill Randle and Stan Fox. After appropriate kind remarks and words of welcome from President Bill and Tom Loo, the governor listened attentively to reports given by several committee chairpersons. These very comprehensive reports detailed goals and achievements of our several outstanding committees. Rota-Monica space does not allow me to do justice of detail reporting. It shall suffice to say that our Santa Monica Club representatives were all very professional and “Did Us Proud”.
Governor Rick was very kind and received our reports with grace. He was very impressed with our club and was especially moved by our community service activities. He commented on our “John Adams Middle School Youth Center Construction Project” our “Immunization Clinic” and “Public Servant Recognition Day”, and our “Organ Donor Awareness Program”, and suggested that we inform our potential new members with detailed information of these community service activities. Rick also told us that he feels that our Club is big enough and should consider the District’s Youth Act project to help our Middle School Children.
To paraphrase the Governor, “Our Santa Monica Rotary Club is what Rotary International is all about in every respect”, and to thee (Our Members) we ascribe all the honor and glory. Congratulations Santa Monica Rotarians and thank you Governor Rick Mendoza for your inspirational leadership.

*Greg is the son of our late Rotarian, Nick Holt. Nick was a great friend and Rotarian who was called to greater service at a very premature age. This young man was the Vice President at the Santa Monica Bank and an extraordinary community leader and remains to this day, sorrowfully missed by many of us.
